Leading Practices in Software-Enabled Roadmapping Conference a Success

Irvine, California - July 22, 2003 - The Learning Trust, a leading enterprise software firm specializing in innovation management automation software solutions, is pleased to announce the success of its most recent roadmapping conference, Leading Practices in Software-Enabled Roadmapping. The event, held on July 17-18, 2003 in Los Angeles, California drew a broad range of attendees from government, corporate and academic institutions.

"We see the quality of the speakers and attendees rise with every new roadmapping-focused event," said Carl Dietz, CEO of The Learning Trust. "There is a clear demand among strategic planners, CTOs and other innovation management professionals to explore this advanced strategic planning technique in depth. It is really beneficial to gather the thought leaders in this field together in one place to explore the body of knowledge on strategic roadmapping."

A highlight of this event was the half-day Cambridge University T-Plan roadmapping workshop. Attendees were split into teams and competed to create 10-year strategic roadmaps for fictional bike manufacturer Biko. Based on their product, market and technological alignment, teams were awarded budget and resource allocations.

Other highlights of the conference focused on the practical applications of roadmapping in corporate planning. Tom Sherbet and Bob Rasmussen of Honeywell delivered engaging presentations on the "how tos" of using strategic roadmapping to reach business objectives and create effective workflows to increase cross-functional collaboration. Bruce Kirk of Corning drew from Corning's years of roadmapping expertise to teach attendees how to create opportunity roadmaps. Dr. Paul Waters of Edwards Air Force Base discussed the foundation for successful roadmapping initiatives. Jim Richey of Motorola facilitated a practical tutorial on interviewing employees to best extract their tacit knowledge during the planning process. Brent Dixon of the Idaho National Engineering and Environmental Laboratories (INEEL) drew on the INEEL's extensive experience to share best practices and lessons learned for creating industry roadmaps.

At the conclusion of the event, attendees were given the opportunity to anonymously rate their experiences at the conference. An enthusiastic 100% of respondents rated the event as meeting or exceeding their expectations.
