The Learning Trust Announces Faculty to Present at its Strategic Roadmapping Workshop

IRVINE, Calif. - September 20, 2001 - The Learning Trust today announced the names of faculty members scheduled to present at the first Strategic Roadmapping: The Practice and the Methods workshop. The workshop, to be held December 6-7, 2001 in La Jolla, California, is the first of several that will focus on best practices and current methods surrounding strategic roadmapping.

The following faculty members will be presenting:

Edward J. Coyle, Ph.D.     Dr. Edward Coyle is a Professor at Purdue University's School of Engineering. He is also the Assistant Vice President for Research in Computing and Communications at the University. Mr. Coyle founded the school's Laboratory of the Future, a facility developed to provide professional and trade associations a resource center for strategic roadmapping.

Thomas A. Kappel, Ph.D.    Dr. Thomas Kappel is an established expert and published author on the subject of strategic roadmapping. Currently, Dr. Kappel works as a Strategic Planner at Tellabs near Chicago, IL. He completed his Ph.D. dissertation at Northwestern University on the subject of technology roadmapping.

Irene Petrick, Ph.D.    Dr. Irene Petrick is an Assistant Professor at Penn State University. Dr. Petrick currently teaches roadmapping in her graduate classes and consults to industry on the application of strategic roadmapping. She holds her Ph.D. in both Engineering Science and Technology Management, which she earned from the Colleges of Engineering and Business Administration at Penn State University.

Robert Phaal, Ph.D.    Dr. Robert Phaal joined the Centre for Technology Management at Cambridge University in 1997, and is currently engaged in a research program to investigate strategic technology management issues in business. Dr. Phaal recently published a book, Fast-Start Technology Roadmapping, on applying roadmapping techniques in business.

Jim Richey    Jim Richey is the Director of Strategic Technology Planning at Motorola, Inc. and is currently deploying an enterprise-wide rollout of roadmapping software. Mr. Richey is also a Professor at University of Phoenix and has extensive experience in developing and delivering roadmapping courses for the full time employees of Motorola.

Bob Schaller    Bob Schaller is one of the world's foremost experts on the history of technology roadmapping. Mr. Schaller teaches at College of Southern Maryland. His current Ph.D. dissertation work in technology roadmapping and its relationship to the semiconductor industry is one of the key case studies of how technology roadmapping has guided an entire industry.

The events are organized by The Learning Trust and the Strategic Roadmapping Practitioners Network, a consortium of individuals with an interest in strategic roadmapping. The workshops include a rotating faculty of industry thought leaders, researchers and roadmapping academic experts providing a comprehensive educational experience.
